Probudi se! (Wake up!)
Probudi se! (Wake up!) is a project wich, in collaboration with the artists, aims to raise public awarness of the citizens about the role of journalists, photographers and cameramen in the society ,and the dangers they are facing during their day to day work.
“Goose pen” – is an award that will be given each annualy to the journalists, cameramen and photographers for a special contribution to the freedom of the press. Preliminary design of the stutue was made by an artist from Zagreb Drazen Grubisic.
The need for public expression, due to bad conditions in the Croatian media and society in general, became a necessity during the 2008. In course of that year, five journalists recived police protection due to life-threaths they have recived. Media freedom is reduced to minimum.
The idea of the concert, which will he held annually during the september is to indicate the dangers which threaten freedom of speech, opinion and the media, was created during an interview with the Zagreb Hip-Hop singer and performer Marko Lasic – Nered (Mess).
Specifically, Nered and myself recived selfless assistance and cooperation from renowned artists from the hip – hop scene. Since they are hip-hop musicians, the lyrics of their songs best describe the real state of society. Literaly translated, Croatian saying for telling something direcly and without polishing goes like this: “Without hair in the language’.
That was an idea I immediately accepted.
At this year’s concert, all the artists agreed to participate without compensation, as well as Program Manager – Customer surprises. In addition to performing the most popular songs of domestic Hip-Hop scene, “Goose pens” will be awarded to journalists, photographers and cameramen for a special contribution to the promotion of freedom, who continuted with their work despite a variety of threats, retaliations, dismissals and other types of mobbing.
At the concert in Zagreb these preformers have so far confirmed participation:
- Nered & Stoka
- Edo Majka & Frenkie
- Mandril
- Martina Vrbos
A week before the concert starts and traveling exhibit called “Attacks on journalists”, which will migrate from place to place, depending on where the attacks on journalists occured.
